Going Out in New York City.

Well, you made it. You’re in the city: a) that never sleeps, b) of your dreams, c) where if you can make it here, you’ve made it everywhere. Even as a young college freshman at 18, you think you can take over New York, and it’ll be as easy as the time you slipped a few extra mimosas at your family Thanksgiving dinner. Chances are you’re wrong, but nobody ever likes a quitter.

# GOING OUT ON-CAMPUS (COLUMBIA)

There are a few bars scattered around each university that are strategically and financially there: to take advantage of all the college students who aren’t of age yet still want to enjoy some fun.

Each bar around Columbia has a general vibe:

  • 1020 located on 110th/Amsterdam is for hipsters
  • Guide Downloads Software Ios Freeview 8 Techworld 3 Tv For The ‘Dam is (surprisingly) also located on Amsterdam and is even more hipster
  • Suite is the neighborhood’s gay bar; on Friday and Saturdays, they have a drag show

Over on Broadway, you have:

  • The Heights (which burned down and was recently repaired) which is normally referenced as “preppy”; their $5 margaritas are to die for.
  • Havana Central (they’re stingy on fakes, though), which hosts Senior Night on Wednesdays for… literally, anyone who’s not a freshman.
  • Further south, you have Mel’s, which is sporty/jocky/bro-y. Come equipped with a fraternity brother or decide to leave with one, because they are in abundance here. Either have a fake ID or a Photoshopped passport and you’ll be fine.

Alternatively, there are the campus parties. Frats and sororities usually have parties throughout the year; walk along 114th on a weekend night that is other than finals or holiday, and you’ll surely find some.

Beta is usually the one with the most freshman, Q House has the most queers, and ADP is usually the rowdiest.

If you are ever invited or know someone inside, St. A’s is the not-so-secret secret rich society on Riverside. This co-ed fraternity is infamous for the initiation procedure, and there was something about a maid in the basement? I just go for the nice beer, cool atmosphere (their balcony overlooks the river and New Jersey skyline — it’s not the same as looking at Manhattan’s skyline, but the pretty lights on a chilly October night is enjoyable).

# GOING OUT NEAR NYU

Like Columbia, NYU itself has its share of campus bars and frats. Although being closer to some of the more desirable city bars, NYU has iconic staples like Brad’s (they closed down, RIP D:), West 3rd Common, and Down The Hatch ($3-any-drink Thursday special).

But, you’re in New York for Alma’s sake — you didn’t come here for the typical college experience. You want clubs with celebrities, bars with drinks that blow smoke and fireworks; morning afters where you walk out of Chace Crawford’s apartment (I’m For Techworld Downloads Freeview Guide Ios 8 3 Software Tv not kidding).

Going out downtown is big freshman year, so be prepared to have the necessary ingredients: usually a pretty convincing ID or passport, attire to match, and enough $$ bucks $$ because, depending on where you go, it could be more than it costs to purchase the Lit Hum semester textbooks.

# MEATPACKING DISTRICT

If you want the fancy clubs, go here. 1Oak, Lavo, Fish&Tackle — these are the clubs you’ll find Bridge and Tunnel (also known as New Jersians).

But The Standard’s Le Bain? Celebrities. Cover can range from $10 for girls to $60 for guys, and you can bet your underage butt that the bouncers charge extra if they have any inkling you’re your actual age. And that’s not even accounting for the $12+ drinks that don’t even taste that well.

# HELL’S KITCHEN

Mostly all gays. If you’re gay, here. If you’re a girl, here. If you’re a straight guy, here — just make it clear you’re not interested or come open-minded.

# GREENWICH & EAST VILLAGE

Probably your best bet (especially if you’re sans fake ID).

This is one of the most crowded neighborhoods, and its consequently the most fun. The bars come in different sizes, colors, themes; you’ll walk along Christopher Street and go from a Mexican bar to a Japanese sushi house. There are Albanian bars, and then there are American bars.

Most are pretty flexible on IDs if you appear old and confident enough, but always keep an eye out (and carry an extra). The crowd is usually older (24+), but you might run into a crowd that’s younger. If you ever want to know what a cupcake tastes like with wine, try Sweet Revenge

# FINANCIAL DISTRICT

Don’t.

# BROOKLYN

If you’re either hipster (non-mainstream hipster, I mean), adventurous, or prefer paying less than $12 for a drink, you’ll probably prefer Brooklyn. But with the adventure comes travel — the commute can vary from 45 minutes to 2 hours, depending how far you go.

Going there is fun, but having to spend 2 hours on a train at 2am with a burgeoning hangover isn’t exactly how most prefer to spend their nights.

However, if you happen to be in Bushwick, Bushwick’s Car Service will deliver you for a flatrate which is usually cheaper than a taxi ($20-$30 depending on how far into Brooklyn you are).

3 Software Tv 8 For Freeview Guide Ios Downloads Techworld Going out in Williamsburg: Probably the most stereotypical. I ran into Penn Badgley here. There are bars that serve free pizza with beer. Boys with scruff that either work for a tech startup or on their next novel written in poetry stanzas. The crowd is, again, older, but age is really just a number.

Going out anywhere else: I can’t really speak too much about going out elsewhere. My best advice is  to stick to the L train; any stop along the grey line is usually fun, affordable, and lively. I know there are cool bars near DUMBO, which are, again, fun but expensive.

IN OTHER BOROUGHS

Sorry, I don’t really feel like giving an in-depth analysis of the other boroughs, although I do recommend you try them yourselves.

Most people stick to Manhattan, and then they graduate and wonder why they didn’t try more things.

  • Staten Island, although far (and disgusting), is an adventure. Head here on a night when campus isn’t too exciting just to say you did it. Just be careful having to head on the ferry back.
  • Queens can be dangerous, but unique; they offer cheaper drinks, hardly ever card (seriously… what underage person actually wants to go to Queens to drink), and serve you pretzels with your beer. (It’s not like Brooklyn’s pizza, but it’s food nonetheless).
  • And Bronx? Nah, not unless you want to get shanked on the sidewalk.

Again, most people limit themselves to one bar or area, which is fine. It’s actually better that you claim one “area” as your main base (Union Square’s Belfry and With Forums Framework Xposed Guide Android At Getting Started aqnBETabc For Wholesalers Retailers Distributors Manufacturers amp; Guide TOrwa8qx5r were my go-to drinking locations for awhile), but never be afraid to break out of the routine and try new places.
